Learn Astrology – Natal Charts, Planets & Houses
What Is a Natal Chart?
A natal chart is a cosmic fingerprint — a snapshot of the sky at the exact moment of your birth. It maps the positions of the Sun, Moon, and planets across the 12 zodiac signs and 12 astrological houses.
The Planets
Each planet represents a different dimension of experience: Sun (core identity), Moon (emotions & instincts), Mercury (communication), Venus (love & beauty), Mars (drive & ambition), Jupiter (growth & luck), Saturn (discipline & lessons), Uranus (innovation & change), Neptune (dreams & intuition), Pluto (transformation & power).
The 12 Zodiac Signs
Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces — each sign colors the planets it holds with distinctive qualities, elements (Fire, Earth, Air, Water), and modalities (Cardinal, Fixed, Mutable).
The 12 Houses
The houses represent 12 life areas: 1st (Self & Appearance), 2nd (Money & Values), 3rd (Communication), 4th (Home & Family), 5th (Creativity & Romance), 6th (Health & Routines), 7th (Relationships & Partnerships), 8th (Transformation & Shared Resources), 9th (Philosophy & Travel), 10th (Career & Legacy), 11th (Community & Hopes), 12th (Spirituality & Unconscious).
Aspects
Aspects are angular relationships between planets: Conjunction (0°, blending), Trine (120°, harmony), Square (90°, tension & growth), Opposition (180°, polarity), Sextile (60°, opportunity).
Your Big Three
Your Sun sign (conscious identity), Moon sign (emotional inner world), and Rising sign / Ascendant (how others perceive you) form the foundation of your astrological profile.
Retrogrades
A planet in retrograde appears to move backward in the sky. Mercury retrograde affects communication and technology; Venus retrograde revisits relationships; Mars retrograde slows action and drive.
